Desert Crest is a gated community within the larger Sonoran Foothills master plan. Residents here are covered by two HOAs, both professionally managed by First Service Res. Dues run $695 quarterly and go toward maintaining community areas and gates. This information is current as of September 2025, so it’s always worth confirming with the HOA directly before you rely on it for a purchase.
Amenities across the community include a 4,000 sqft clubhouse, a 12-acre park, a lap and leisure pool, a wading pool and splash pad, lighted tennis and basketball courts, recreational field space, and an extensive trail system, plus monthly social gatherings that make it easy to actually get to know your neighbors.

The Phoenix Sonoran Preserve wraps right around Sonoran Foothills, with more than 200 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking across skill levels. Favorites include the Apache Wash Loop Trail, Dixie Mountain Loop Trail, Daisy Mountain Loop Trail, and the Deem Hills Circumference Trail, with easy access from the Desert Hills and Desert Vista trailheads.
Closer to home, Deem Hills Recreation Area has hiking trails, athletic fields, a playground, and a dog park, while Roy Rogers Park functions as a smaller community park for residents nearby. The Goelet A Beuf Community Center adds an indoor track, basketball court, and playground at a park with athletic fields. If your kids want a big day out, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is the largest water park in the state, with over 30 attractions including a wave pool and lazy river.
For those who like their outdoor time to include a boat, Lake Pleasant, Bartlett Lake, Saguaro Lake, Canyon Lake, Apache Lake, and Roosevelt Lake are all within reach, along with golf at courses like The 500 Club, Wildfire Golf Club, and Anthem Country Club.

A few of our personal favorites: Angry Crab, Osteria Mia, Salt Tacos y Tequila, The Stillery, Peaks & Valleys Restaurant, The Tennessee Grill, Two Brothers Kitchen, Pasta Love, Tikka Shack Indian Grub, Connolly’s Sports Grill, State 48 Rock House, and Roadrunner Restaurant & Saloon, all within a few minutes of Sonoran Foothills.
For shopping, The Shops at Norterra and Outlets North Phoenix are practically neighbors, and Happy Valley Towne Center, Deer Valley Towne Center, Desert Ridge Marketplace, and Arrowhead Towne Center round out the options when you need something bigger than a boutique run.

Sonoran Foothills is served by the Deer Valley Unified School District, and the numbers back up the reputation: DVUSD’s 4-year graduation rate ending in June 2025 was 96%, 16% higher than the state average, and the district has 25 schools carrying the “A+ School of Excellence” designation from the Arizona Educational Foundation, including three of the AEF’s 53 statewide awards in 2025.
Within the community itself, Sonoran Foothills School covers PK through 8th grade, and Barry Goldwater High School serves grades 9-12.
